Kana Oyama.
Kana has more than 20 years of experience in Japanese calligraphy and holds a Shihan qualification as a certified instructor.

Read Kana’s full story
Kana began studying calligraphy at the age of seven and later earned her Shihan qualification. After graduating from Fukuoka University of Education, she continued her professional study and taught calligraphy at a public high school in Shikoku, Japan.
Her work has received major student calligraphy awards, and in 2024 she guided students to the national finals of two Japanese high school calligraphy performance competitions. Now based in New Zealand, she shares the beauty of Japanese calligraphy through teaching, performance and personalised works.

A relaxed, welcoming session designed for first-time participants as well as anyone curious about Japanese calligraphy.
ExperienceBeginners are welcome. No Japanese-language experience is required.
